- Cephalexin
Therapeutic actions: Cephalexin is an antibiotic which belongs to the Cephalosporin group. The drug works by interfering with the bacterial cells ability to form cell walls thus allowing lysis to take place. The effects of cephalexin can be observed on many strains of gram-positive and negative bacteria.
Indications: This antibiotic is used in treatment of such conditions as:
- Pyelonephritis (kidney infections)
- Ear, nose, throat infections
- Nose, windpipe and lung infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin or wound infections
Contraindications and cautions: The drug should not be used in the following conditions:
- Allergy or hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
- Porphyriasis (inherited blood disease)
- Mental health problems (consult your doctor)
- Breastfeeding
The drug is in FDA pregnancy category B meaning that it may be used during pregnancy after a consultation with a doctor.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Cephalexin will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
