Therapeutic actions:
Generic paroxetine is a selective inhibitor of serotonin reuptake. By inhibiting the reuptake paroxetine increases blood levels of serotonin in the synaptic gap and improves the cooperation of brain cells (neurons). This is considered beneficial for the relief of depression symptoms. The medication possesses a low affinity to m-choline receptors, 1-, 2- and -adrenoreceptors, D2-dopamine receptors. The medication does not affect blood pressure, heart rate and ECG.
Indications:
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Panic disorder
- Depression (also known as major depression or clinical depression)
- Social anxiety disorder
- Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Contraindications and cautions:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medications ingredients
- Simultaneous use of MAO inhibiting and a period of 14 days after their use
- Unstable epilepsy
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- Manic episodes of bipolar affective disorder (manic depression)
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
The medication should be used with caution in: renal failure, hepatic failure, closed-angle glaucoma, diabetes, hyperplasia of the prostate gland, mania, heart problems, epilepsy, seizures, simultaneous indication of countershock therapy, simultaneous indication of medicines which increase the risk of bleedings.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. - CNS and peripheral system: drowsiness, tremor, asthenia, insomnia, dizziness, fatigability, seizures, extrapyramidal disorders, serotonin syndrome, hallucinations, mania, confusion, agitation,nervousness, panic attacks, amnesia, depersonalizations.
- Sense organs:vision disorders
- Locomotor system: arthralgia, myalgia, muscle weakness, miopathy.
- Urogenital system: urine retention,
- Sexual function: sexual dysfunction, ejaculation problems, anorgasmia, galactorrhea
- Digestive system: decreased or increased appetite, taste changes, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, hepatitis
- Cardiovascular system: low blood pressure
- Allergic reactions: skin rash, hives, itching, edema
- Other: increased sweating, rhinitis, low sodium blood levels ADH secretion problems
