Active Ingredients:
guaifenesin
Therapeutic actions: Enhances the output of respiratory tract fluid by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension, facilitating the removal of viscous mucus.
Indications The product can be used by adults, children and youths. The product is used to treat dry, irritative and difficult-to-control cough in viral infections of the upper and lower airways, in inflammations of the upper airways and in inflammation of pharynx, larynx, bronchi and lungs. Stoptussin can also be administered to relieve cough before and after surgery. If recommended by a doctor, it can be used in asthma, tuberculosis and lung silicosis.
Contraindications and cautions: The product must not be used in hypersensitivity to any product components and in myasthenia gravis. Stoptussin should not be used during the first trimester and its use during the subsequent six months of pregnancy must be justified by strong reasons.
Provided the symptoms of the disease do not recede or attenuate within 3 days or a patient's status deteriorates, or if unusual reactions occur, search a doctor. Do not use the product for more than 7 days if not consulted with a doctor.
Consult suitability of concurrent administration of Stoptussin and other drugs with a doctor.
Provided a doctor will prescribe you other drugs, inform him/her that you use Stoptussin.
The product can adversely affect the activities which require higher attention, co-ordination of movements and quick decision-making (e.g. driving motor vehicles, operating machines, work in heights).
Consult a doctor in case of overdosage or accidental use of the product by a child. The product contains 28% alcohol.
Adverse effects: The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
The product is usually well tolerated. Exceptionally the patients may experience sickness, vomiting, diarrhoea, gastric pain, dizziness and headache, urticaria and dermal rash. In case of the incidence of the undesirable effects consult further use of the product with a doctor.

Interactions: Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine. The effect of guaiphenesin is increased by the action of lithium and magnesium. Guaiphenesin increases the anti-painful effect of paracetamol and acetylsalicylic acid, increases the inhibitory effect of alcohol, sedatives, drugs to evoke sleeping and total anaesthetics. Guaiphenesin increases the effect of drugs reducing muscular tension.
