Drug name: Escapelle
Active Ingredients:
levonorgestrel
Therapeutic actions: The active ingredient of Escapelle is synthetic gestagen that possesses the expressed gestagenic and anti-estrogenic properties. Escapelle suppresses ovulation, changes the endometrium. It prevents the implantation of the impregnated egg cell as well as increases the viscosity of cervical mucus that impedes the spermatozoids movements. It has been established that levonorgestrel prevents 83-84% of expected pregnancies.
Indications: Escapelle is used as an emergency Contraception mean within 4 days of not protected sexual intercourse or failure of a contraceptive method.
Contraindications and cautions:
Do not use Escapelle in the following conditions:
- allergy levonorgestrel or to any of the
- Liver failure
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Do not use this medication as a regular contraceptive . Use Escapelle only for “emergency situation”.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Escapelle will experience it or any other.
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Bleeding
- Delay of menses more than 7 days

Escapelle may increase the risk of cyclosporine toxicity because of possible inhibition of cyclosporine metabolism.
