Active Ingredients:
ethinyl estradiol, gestoden
Therapeutic actions: Femoden - a low dosed monophase oral combined estrogen-gestogen contraceptive drug. The contraceptive effect of Femoden consists of 3 complementary mechanisms:
- Supression of ovulation on the level of hepato-hypophysic regulation.
- Modifications of cervical secret properties, resulting in impenetrability for spermatozoons.
- Modification of endotermis, which makes implantation of a fertilized ovule nearly impossible.
Also use of Femoden changes menstrual cycle more regular, lowers the intensity of pain during menstruation, decreases menstrual bleeding, thus lowering the risk of iron-deficient anemia.
Indications: Prevention of pregnancy.
Contraindications and cautions: In the following conditions you shouldn't use Femoden or any other hormonal contraceptive drug.
- Trombosis
- State antecedent to trombosis
- Migraine
- Insular Diabetes
- Multiple risk factors of venous or arterial thrombosis including affection of mitral valve, arythmia, affection of brain vessels and coronary arteries, uncontrolled arterial hypertension.
- Pancreatitis
- Renal disfunction and acute liver disease.
- Liver tumors (benign or malignant)
- Revealed hormone-dependant tumors
- Vaginal hemorrhage
- Pregnancy
- Lactation period
- Hyhersensitivity to the components of preparation
- Longterm immobilization, serious surgical operation, surgery on extremity's, vast trauma's
Adverse effects: The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
Delicacy, enlargement of mammary gland's, or nipple discharge, blood discharges and uterine bleeding. Migraine, change in libido, sudden decreases or changes in mood, visual impairment, sickness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, change in vaginal secretion, skin irritation, rash, erythema nodosum, generalized itching, holeostatic jaundice, fluid excretion disorders, changes in weight, allergic reactions. Rare - diarrhea and undue fatiguability, formation of blood clot's.

Interactions:
- Sulfonamid drugs , derivates of pirazolon can increase metabolism of steroidal hormones which are located in the preparation
- Longterm treatment with drugs which induce liver enzymes, resulting in clearance extension for sex hormones, can cause vaginal bleeding and/or decrease in efficacy of Femoden.
- Contraceptive effectivness is lowered when using antibiotics of ampicilin and tetracycline type.
- Combineed contraceptives can influence metabolism of cyclosporines thus reducing their efficacy. Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine.
