Drug name: Ovidon

Active Ingredients: Norgestrel, ethinyl estradiol

Therapeutic actions: Ovidon is a type of oral contraceptive means, which consosts of two components, which act by slowing the ovulation period. Owing to low concentration of active ingredients Ovidon rarely causes any side-effects, and doesn't affect future pregnancy in any way.

Indications: Ovidonis used to treat abnormal periods or bleeding and to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life). Ovidon is also used to prevent pregnancy.

Contraindications and cautions: State after Hepatitis, leaver disorder, thrombosis disposition, acute heart disease, diabetes, chronic colitis, other disorders of endocrine gland system, malignant neoplasm, wounded mammary glands and personal intolerance.

Adverse effects: The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect. Possible gastrointestinal disorders, nausea, vomiting, head ache, tensed mammary glands, change in weight and libido, depressed mood, intermenstrual hemorrhage, discomfort using contact lenses, thou such symptoms should pass after 2 or 3 months of non-stop treatment.

During long-term treatment pigmentation marks can appear on skin. Rarely occurs a raise in triglyceride and sugar levels in the blood, lowered tolerance to glucose, increased blood pressure, thrombosis, gall-bladder dysfunction, skin irritation, hair falling, change in vaginal secretion, vaginal mycosis, undue fatigability and diarrhea.

You should take extra care in using Ovidon with:

  • Inductors of liver metabolism, like rifampicin, derivatives of phenobarbital, anticonvulsive drugs (fenitoin, karbamazepin), phenylbutason, ketokonazol, antibiotics with a broad-spectrum action( tetracycline, ampicillin, chloramfenicol, neomycin) because of possible decrease in pharmaceutical action.
  • With anticoagulants derivatives of coumarine and indandion.
  • With tricyclic Antidepressants maprotolin or beta blockers.
  • With oral antidiabetic drugs, insulin,
  • With hepatotoxic means like Dantrolen, due to the risk of increased hepatotoxicity.
