Drug name: Pharmatex

Therapeutic actions: Pharmatex is a birth control medication for the local application. Pharmatex possesses spermicidal and antiseptic properties. Spermatocidal action is associated with a ability of medication to damage the membranes of sperm cells(smermatozoids): flagellum and then head. As a result, spermatozoid is not able to fertilize the egg.

Pharmatex exerts antibacterial action against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia spp., Trichomonas vaginalis, Herpes Zoster type 2, Staphylococcus aureus that can be transmitted through the sexual intercourse. Benzalkonium chloride does not act on Mycoplasma spp, Gardnerelia vaginalis, Candida albicans, Haernophilus ducreyl and Treponema pallidum.

The preparation does not affect normal microflora of a vagina and a hormonal cycle.

Indications: Pharmatex is used as a local contraceptive for each women of a childbearing age.

Pharmatex can be used in women in the following conditions:

• Breastfeeding and postnatal period
• Period, preceding menopause
• In the case of missing the dose of per oral hormonal contraceptives
• Inability to use hormonal birth control pills(hormonal contraceptives) and intrauterine devices

Contraindications and cautions:

• You should not use Pharmatex if you have hypersensitivity or allergy to benzalkonium chloride.
• Use Erotex with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Warning!

• Vaginal suppositories used 5 minutes and vaginal tablets 10 minute before the sexual intercourse. The duration of treatment lasts 3 and 4 hours consequently.
• Do not use douche within 4 hours after the sexual intercourse while using Pharmatex.
• Soap and other anionic surfactants even in trace amounts inactivate this spermicide. Bathing or swimming must be avoided as the efficiency of the product is affected.

Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Pharmatex will experience it or any other.

Skin allergic reactions may occur in some people.

Intravaginal use of some medications can inactivate the spermicidal action of benzalkonium chloride.
