Active Ingredients:
indapamide
Therapeutic actions: Indapamide is a diuretic, which is commonly referred to as a "water pill" Specifically, it is known as an "indoline" diuretic. Indapamide is unlike any other diuretic; in fact, it is the only indoline diuretic. Although it is not entirely clear how indapamide works, it is thought that it works by increasing the amount of salt and water that the kidneys remove from the blood. This extra salt and water is passed out through urine. By increasing the amount of water removed from the blood, indapamide causes a decrease in blood volume. Because of this effect, indapamide can lower blood pressure and also help with water retention.
Indications:
- High blood pressure (hypertension) control
- Treatment of water retention (edema) due to congestive heart failure (CHF).
Contraindications and cautions: You should not take indapamide if:
- You are allergic to indapamide, or any inactive component used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of inactive ingredients.
- You are allergic to sulfonamides ("sulfa" drugs).
- You are not producing any urine (anuria).
You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking indapamide (Indap®) if you have:
- Kidney disease or kidney failure
- Diabetes
- Gout
- Fluid or electrolyte problems
- Any allergies, including allergies to sulfa drugs, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
- Are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Indapamide is considered a pregnancy Category B medication. This means that it is probably safe to use during pregnancy, although the full risks are not known. Talk to your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using indapamide during pregnancy
- Are breastfeeding
Important

- Drowsiness
- Restlessness
