Betoptic

Betoptic

Drug name: Betoptic

Active Ingredients: Betaxolol

Therapeutic actions: Betoptic belongs to a type of drugs known as beta-blockers. These medications block beta-receptors throughout the body: in lungs, heart, blood vessels. When given as eye drops, Betoptic interacts with receptors in the blood vessels of the eye, causing them to constrict. As a result, the amount of aqueous humour (watery fluid) that passes out of the blood vessels into the eye-ball is decreased. Betoptic also works by blocking beta-receptors in the area of the eye that actively produces watery fluid. This leads to the reduction of intraocular pressure.

Indications:
Betoptic is used to treat:
Open angle glaucoma(Eye disease that is distinguished by an increase of intraocular pressure, causing damage to the retina and optic nerve. If not treated early this may result in serious vision loss or even blindness).

Contraindications and cautions:
You should not use Betoptic drops:

  • if you suffer from cardiovascular disorders (heart blocks , severe heart failure, cardiogenic shock)
  • if you have hypersensitivity or allergy to any of Betoptic ingredient
  • if you experience bradycardia(slow rate of heart beat)

You should talk with your health care provider prior to taking Betoptic drops if you experience the following conditions:

Warning!
You should not wear soft contact lenses while you are taking Betaxolol. Betaxolol eye drops contains a preservative that can be absorbed by soft contact lenses, causing eye irritation and stinging.

There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Betaxolol will experience it or any other.

Similarly, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medication while taking this one, to ensure that the combination is safe.
