Dorzopt
Drug name: Dorzopt
Other names used:
- TrusoptĀ®
Active Ingredients:
Dorzolamide
Therapeutic actions: Dorzopt contains the active ingredient Dorzolamide. Dorzolamide belongs to a group of medications called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. These medications work by blocking the action of an enzyme in the body called carbonic anhydrase.
Carbonic anhydrase is essential enzyme for the production of bicarbonate in the body. Bicarbonate is required for the production of the watery fluid (aqueous humour) that fills the space in the front of the eye. As dorzolamide inhibits the production of bicarbonate ,it also reduces the production of aqueous humour. This leads to a decrease in the amount of aqueous humour filling the front space of the eye, thus reducing the intraocular pressure .
Indications: Dorzolamide is used to treat disorders that are manifested with an increased build up of pressure within the eye, such as glaucoma. The eye has two fluid filled spaces, and if too much fluid is produced (or not enough is allowed to drain away) this tends to an increase of intraocular pressure. High intraocular pressure may damage the eye leading to loss of vision.
