Neladex

Drug name: Neladex

Active Ingredients:

  • Dexamethasone,
  • Neomycin,
  • Polymyxin B sulphate

Therapeutic actions: Dexamethasone is a medicine known as corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation in the affected area. Inflammation is caused by the release of substances that cause blood vessels to widen. This results in redness, swelling, itching and painful sensation in the affected area. By effecting the damage cells , dexamethasone decreases the release of these substances ,reducing inflammation precesses.

Neomycin belongs to a group of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. Neomycin destroys a wide variety of bacteria. By binding to bacterial cell's components, neomycin cause bacteria to produce abnormal proteins. This leads to death of bacteria.

Polymixin B sulphate belongs to a group of antibiotics known as polymyxins. It works by increasing the permeability the bacteria's cell wall. This results in lysis of the bacteria.

Indications: Neladex is used to treat or prevent eye inflammation caused by bacteria (blepharitis; conjunctivitis; keratitis, iridocyclitis)

Contraindications and cautions: You should not use Neladex :

  • if you have an allergy to any of Neladex ingredients
  • if you experience eye conditions that produces pus
  • if eye infection is caused by fungi
  • if experience tuberculosis infection that affects the eye
  • in viral infections of the eye (Herpes simplex)

You should talk with your health care provider prior to taking Neladex in:

  • Children
  • People who have shown allergy reactions to similar antibiotics e.g. kanamycin, gentamicin, framycetin
  • Cornea epithelium defects
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

Warning! Fungal infection may occur following administration of glucocorticoids in combination with antibiotic medicines.
