Active Ingredients:
Quinapril hydrochloride
Therapeutic actions: Accupro is an anti-hypertensive drug which belongs to a group called ACE(angeotensin converting enzyme) inhibitors. This group of drugs work by blocking the action of the ACE. ACE is used by the body to produce angeotensin II this compound causes vessel constriction which in turn results in increased blood pressure. If the enzyme which produces angeotensin II is blocked then the body produces less of the compound the vessels widen. The overall effect that can be monitored is decrease of blood pressure.
Indications: the drug is indicated in treatment of the following conditions:
- Heart failure
- Essential hypertension
Contraindications and cautions: Be sure to read the following:
- The medication may cause dizziness in the first days of treatment
- Alcohol can lower the effect of the medicine.
- If an allergic reaction to ACE inhibitors manifests or was ever experienced you should not use Accupro as your treatment.
- Your kidney function, blood pressure and potassium levels should be examined frequently during treatment.
Accupro needs to be used with caution in the following cases:
- Elderly age
- Liver or kidney dysfunction
- Renal artery stenosis
- Dehydration
- Severe diarrhea
- Low potassium levels
- Atherosclerosis of different origin
- Diabetes
- Systemic inflammation
- People suffering from an allergic reaction
- Kidney failure.
Quinapril should not be used in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation or previously experienced hypersensitivity to ACE inhibitors
- Aortic sclerosis
- Oedema of different origin.
- Cardiomiopahty characterized my a blockage inside the heart
- Pregnancy, lactation period
- Young age
The drug may be harmful to an unborn baby. Please consult your local health care provider on the possibility of using Accupro if you plan to become pregnant, are pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Accupro will experience it or any other. The side effects of the drug are:
- Headache
- Cough
- Rhinitis
- Dizziness
- Weakness or tiredness
- Muscle or joint pain
- Angina
- Insomnia
- Abdominal disturbance: diarrhea, nausea, pain, vomiting.
- Hypontension
- Rash or itching
- Depression
- Vision impairment
- Low sex drive, inability to maintain an erection
- Taste change
- Angioedema - stop the use of Accupro immediately.
- Kidney, liver, blood disorders
- Hyperkaliemia

- Viral treatment including HIV and Hepatitis
