Therapeutic actions: Coronal belongs to a group of drugs called Beta-blockers. The drugs work by blocking Beta receptors thus preventing the effects of two chemicals called noradrenaline and adrenaline which are normally produced by the body. When Beta receptors are blocked in the heart they result in slowed heart rate and less force needed from the heart to pump blood all over the body. The drug may be used in conjunct ACE inhibitors, diuretics or digoxin. The dosage of the drug is increased over time under strict supervision of your health care provider.
Indications: The drug is indicated in treatment of chronic, stable heart failure as subsidiary treatment.
Contraindications and cautions: The drugs should be used with extreme caution in the following conditions:
- Old age over 80 years
- Decreased kidney and liver function
- Diabetes
- Heart valve disease
- Congenital heart disease
- Alcohol abuse
- 1-st degree heart block
- Severe angina pectoris
- Peripheral arterial blood-flow dysfunction
- Heart attack
- Asthma
- COPD
- Psoriasis and allergy history
- Hyperthyroidism
The drug should not be used in:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
- Acute heart failure
- Cardiogenic shock
- 2nd and 3rd degree heart block
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Sino-atrial heart block
- Bradycardia
- Hypotension
- Severe peripheral arterial blood flow dysfunction
- Pheochromocytoma
- Metabolic acidosis
- Young age – people under 18 years of age.
- Pregnancy
- Lactation period
Do not stop the use of this medicine suddenly due to the possibility of appearance of unwanted withdrawal effects.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Coronal will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
- Weakness
- Vertigo
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Bradycardia
- Hypotension
- Muscle cramps
- Cold feeling in the extremities
- Insomnia or other sleep disturbances
- Depression
- Bronchospasm
- Nightmares
- Hallucinations
- Skin rashes
- Impotence
- Dry eyes
- Liver problems
- Psoriasis in acute stage

- Diabetes treatment
- Calcium channel blockers
- Drugs that treat hypertension: Ace inhibitors, Clonidine and etc.
- Antiarrhythmic treatment
- NSAID's
- Treatment of migraines like ergotamine and its derivatives
- Antibiotics: rifampicin
- Tranquilizers
- Diuretics
- Antipsychotic
- Prostaglandins(alprostadil)
