Active Ingredients:
Alprostadil
Concentration: Each ampoule contains 48,2g of dry substance with 20 mkg of alprostadil in it.
Therapeutic actions: Alprostadil is the same as a naturally occurring chemical called prostaglandin E1. This prostaglandin is thought to cause some types of blood vessels to widen by relaxing the thin layer of muscle found in the vessel wall.
An erection is produced via a complex chain of events, involving signals from the nervous system and the release of active chemicals, including prostaglandin E1 within the tissues of the penis. These chemicals cause blood vessels entering the penis to widen, allowing more blood to enter, and other blood vessels leaving the penis to constrict, stopping blood from leaving the penis.
Indications: Alprostadil is used to produce a sexually functional erection in males with impotence (erectile dysfunction).
Contraindications and cautions: Before using alprostadil,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to alprostadil or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin), and vitamins.
- tell your doctor if you have or have ever had anemia, bleeding disorders, sickle cell disease, leukemia, cancer, or kidney or liver disease. Alprostadil should not be used in patients with penile implants.
Adverse effects: The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
Alprostadil may cause side effects. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- erection lasting more than 4 hours
- redness, swelling, tenderness, or unusual curving of the erect penis
- nodules or hard areas on the penis
- pain on injection
- bleeding
The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the drug's manufacturer.
Interactions: Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine.
This medicine should not be used with any other treatment for erectile dysfunction.
People taking medicines to prevent the blood clotting (anticoagulants), such as warfarin, may have an increased risk of bleeding after the injection.
Additional Information: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, if needed during treatment, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials.
