Drug name: Leukeran
Active Ingredients:
- Chlorambucil
Therapeutic actions: Leukeran belongs to a group of drugs called alkylating agents. They work by slowing the growth of cancer cells in the body.
Indications: Leukeran is prescribed to treat the following conditions:
- some types of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas
- advanced Hodgkin's disease
- chronic lymphocytic leukemia
Contraindications and cautions: Before you start treatment with this drug tell your doctor the following:
- If you have ever experienced hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation or to other anti-cancer medicine.
- If you are suffering from epilepsy
- IF you plan or recently had a vaccination
Chlorambucil is in FDA pregnancy category D. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation period. The drugs also may increase the chance of developing other forms of tumors. Consult your doctor on the possible risks.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Leukeran will experience it or any other. Common side-effects include:
- Darkened or dry skin
- Changed appetite
- Weight loss
- Diarrhea
- Weakness
Severe side-effects include:
- Extreme fatigue
- Blisters in the mouth

- Bleeding or bruising
- Bloody stools
- Blood in the urine(red color)
- Coughing
- Sore throat and mouth
- Congestion
- Allergic reaction: swelling, difficulty breathing, fever, rash, itching, difficulty breathing.
- Seizures
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Chills
