Vioxx contains the active ingredient Rofecoxib which belongs to a group of medicines called NSAID's Vioxx works by inhibiting the enzyme called COX type 2. This enzyme is responsible for the production and synthesis of inflammatory mediators called prostoglandins. By inhibiting this enzyme Vioxx helps to relieve pain and inflammation.Indications:
Vioxx is used in the treatment of arthritis symptoms including acute and chronic osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis Vioxx can also be indicated in primary dysmenorrheaContraindications and cautions:
Vioxx should not be taken in the following conditions:- Prolonged use
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Heart attacks and strokes in anamnesis
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Liver and kidney dysfunction
- Diseases of the digestive system
- Asthma
- Oncological patients
- Dehydration
- Diabetes
- Patients with elderly age
- Children and adolescents under 12 years of age
Make sure to consult your health care provide if you:
- have a history or blood clots, strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular complications
- abuse alcohol
- smoke frequently

- Gastrointestinal system: heartburn, dyspepsia, nausea, stomatitis, increased activity of liver's enzymes, stomach bleedings, liver dysfunction
- Other: changes in amount of urine, weight gain.
