Therapeutic actions:
Feldoral is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug which possesses analgesic and antipyretic properties.
Feldoral acts at several steps in the immune and inflammation responses through:
- Inhibition of prostaglandins synthesis.
- Inhibition of neutrophil aggregation.
- Inhibition of polymorphonuclear cell migration to the area of inflammation.
- Inhibition of lysosomal enzyme release from stimulated leucocytes.
- Reduction of synovial fluid rheumatoid factor production in patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis.
- Feldoral is completely absorbed after oral administration and peak concentration in plasma occurs within 2-4 hours.
Indications:
- Acute musculoskeletal disorders.
- Osteoarthritis.
- Ankylosing spondylitis.
- Rheumatoid arthritis.
- Acute gout.
- Pain after operative intervention and following acute trauma.
- Primary Dysmenorrhea.
- For relief of pain and fever associated with acute upper respiratory tract inflammation.
Contraindications and cautions: Feldoral is contraindicated in
- Active peptic ulceration.
- Hypersensitivity to the drug, aspirin and other NSAIDs.
- Asthmatic patients.
Close control of patients with history of upper gastrointestinal disease or compromised cardiac functions.
Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been yet established.
Side effects:

Gastrointestinal reactions such as epigastric distress, nausea, constipation and abdominal pain are the most common. But less than 5% of patients discontinue treatment because of these. Rare incidence of dizziness, headache and skin rash. as with other aspirin -like drugs, piroxicam alters the function of the platelets and it should be assumed that piroxicam will precipitate bronchoconstriction in patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin.

Feldoral increases the effect of cumarin anticoagulants, sulfamide, hydatid, and litium. Decreases the acetyl sallicylic plasmatic level.
