Drug name: Lidocain spray
Therapeutic actions: Lidocaine belongs to a group of medicines called anesthetic agents. Lidocaine possesses a local anesthetic action due to blocking the regeneration and impulses conduction in the nerve endings. Lidocaine increases the excitability threshold resulting in suppression impulses conductibility.
Lidocaine inhibits the throat reflex and cough reflexes. In therapeutic doses lidocaine spray does not act on heart force and heart rate. Therapeutic effect occurs in 1 minute and lasts 5-6 minutes.
Indications: Lidocaine spray is indicated for anesthesia of the mucous lining
- In dental practice and during surgical intervention in the mouth cavity.
- In ENT practice
- In endoscopy and instrumental examination
- In tocology and gynecology
- In dermatological practice
Contraindications and cautions: Lidocaine spray should not be used in the following conditions:
- Seizures
- AV-blockage 2nd and 3rd blockage
- Adams-Stokes disease
- Decreased heart rate(bradycardia)
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Cardiogenic shock
- Lowered function of the left ventricle
- It is not recommended to use Lidocaine for the local anesthesia before tonsillectomy and adenectomy in children under 8 years of age.
Necessarily tell your health care provider before taking Lidocaine spray if you are pregnant and breastfeeding.
Lidocaine should be used with caution in patients with liver dysfunctions, hypotension, insufficient blood circulation, kidney failure, epilepsy, mental overload, elderly age.
Avoid contact of Lidocaine spray with eyes and airways
In children it is recommended to apply lidocaine spray on tampon that should be used locally.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Lidocaine spray will experience it or any other.
- Local reactions: itching, burning
- Allergic reactions: anaphylactic shock
- CNS: hyper excitability
- Cardiovascular diseases: arterial hypotension, bradycardia

- Antiarrhythmic drugs
- Phenytoin
- Other anesthetic agents(procaine)
- Cardiac glycosides
- Alcoholic beverages
- Aminazin, cimetidine, propranolol, cetidine, bupivacaine, chinide, disopyramide, amitriptyline, imipramine, nortriptyline increases lidocaine blood levels
