Therapeutic actions: Lidocaine belongs to a group of medicines called anesthetic agents. Lidocaine possesses a local anesthetic action due to blocking the regeneration and impulses conduction in the nerve endings. Lidocaine increases the excitability threshold resulting in suppression impulses conductibility.

Lidocaine possesses antiarrhythmic properties, stabilizes cells membrane, blocks sodium channels, increases the membrane permeability for K+ ions.

Indications: Lidocaine is used for the local anesthesia in surgical practice, gynecology and stomatology. As usual, Lidocaine is used in combination with Adrenalin(epinephrin). For the therapeutic purposes 0,5-1% lidocaine solution is used in different pain syndrome(lumbago, inflammation), back pain during delivery, in kidney and liver colic.

Lidocaine is used in cardiological practice for the treatment of mono and polytopic ventricular premature beats, chronic ventricular premature beats, ventricular fibrillation in acute cardiac infarction, for the relief of supra ventricular and paroxysmal tachycardia that occurs in different neurotic syndrome.

Contraindications and cautions:

  • Known hypersensitivity to lidocaine
  • Seizures
  • AV-blockage 2nd and 3rd blockage
  • Adams-Stokes disease
  • Decreased heart rate(bradycardia)
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Lowered function of the left ventricle
  • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
  • Disturbance of the intraventricular conduction
  • Severe liver and kidney failure
  • Severe myastenia
  • Sinus bradycardia
  • Genetic predisposition to malignant hyperthermia
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
