Active Ingredients: Nimesulide

Therapeutic actions: Nimesulide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties and a specific mode of action. Nimesulide acts by inhibiting the release of tumour necrosis factor-alpha, acts as a competitive inhibitor of histamine release and reduces superoxide anion formation.

Indications:
Nimesulide is indicated for the treatment of acute pain, the symptomatic treatment of painful osteoarthritis and primary dysmenorrhoea.

Contraindications and cautions:

  • Known hypersensitivity to Nimesulide or to any of the excipients of the products.
  • History of hypersensitivity reactions(bronchospasm, rhinitis, urticaria) in response to acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • History of hepatotoxic reactions to Nimesulide
  • Active gastric or duodenal ulcer, a history of recurrent ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding, cerebrovascular bleeding or other active bleeding or bleeding disorders.
  • Severe coagulation disorders
  • Severe heart failure
  • Severe renal impairment
  • Children under 12 years
  • The third trimester of pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®, Anaprox®, Naprosyn®, Naprelan®), diclofenac (Cataflam®, Voltaren®), indomethacin (Indocin®), nabumetone (Relafen®), oxaprozin (Daypro®), celecoxib (Celebrex®), etodolac (Lodine®, Lodine® XL), and others
  • Aspirin
  • Lithium (Eskalith®, Lithane®, Lithonate®, Lithotabs®)
  • Diuretics, such as torsemide (Demadex®), furosemide (Lasix®), and hydrochlorothiazide
  • ACE inhibitors, such as lisinopril (Zestril®, Prinivil®), fosinopril (Monopril®), captopril (Capoten®), quinapril (Accupril®), benazepril (Lotensin®), enalapril (Vasotec®), or ramipril (Altace®)
  • Methotrexate (Rheumatrex®, Trexall™)
  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Cholestyramine (Questran®, Questran® Light, Prevalite®, LoCholest®)
  • Corticosteroids, such as prednisone, hydrocortisone (Cortef®), dexamethasone (Decadron®, Dexone®, Hexadrol®), and many others.

Several herbal and nutritional supplements can also interact with meloxicam and may increase the risk of bleeding. Examples of these include but are not limited to:

  • Dong quai
  • Feverfew
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Ginseng
  • St. John's wort
  • Fish oil supplements.
