Ketoconazole
Therapeutic actions: Ketoconazole belongs to a group of medicines called antimycotic(antifungal). Ketoconazole possesses antifungal action. It is effective against dermatophitis, yeast fungus as well as some strains of Gram-positive bacteria. Ketoconazole works by interfering the synthesis of ergosterol, resulting in lysis of mycotic cells. Ketoconazole doesn't change PH and normal bacterial population in the vagina.
Indications: Ketoconazole is used to treat vaginitis and vulvovagonitis caused by Candida albicans.
Contraindications and cautions:
You should not use Ketoconazole:
- in hypersensitivity or allergy to ketoconazole
- in pregnancy
- in breastfeeding
- in children
Use ketoconazole with caution in kidney or liver disorders.

- Regularly check your blood levels while taking ketoconazole vaginal suppositories.
- Your health care provider should monitor your liver and kidney function while taking this medication.
